Black Student Union (BSU) and Latin American Student Organization (LASO)

Black Student Union (BSU) and Latin American Student Organization (LASO) meet regularly to discuss issues of racial and ethnic identity.

Wings (Gender and Sexuality Alliance)

Wings (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) provides a forum for students to talk about issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, heterosexism and homophobia.

Salaam Muslim Student Association and Jewish Ethel Walker 学生们 (JEWS)

Salaam Muslim Student Association and Jewish Ethel Walker 学生们 (JEWS) clubs share traditions and holidays with the Walker's community, as well as work to dispel stereotypes and misconceptions about Islam and Judaism.

亚洲俱乐部 has over 30 members and shares various aspects of Asian culture with the Walker’s community through performances, presentations, and traditional meals.

Social Justice Education

Walker’s prepares girls to shape a society that is more equitable for all members. We provide opportunities for students to acquire both the knowledge and desire to work against systems of social inequality such as sexism, racism, classism, heterosexism, and religious oppression.

9th Grade Seminar - Social Justice

In this course, students explore their own cultural identity and think about the ways that identity impacts their perspective and their interactions with others. They also examine social systems that provide advantages to some identity groups and restrict access and opportunity to others.

正义联盟 is responsible for planning a variety of events for the campus community that teach about systems of inequality, including the annual Martin Luther King Day program focusing on systemic racism and the annual "Empty Bowls" event focusing on economic inequality.

The following mission statement guides the group: "正义联盟 is a group of students committed to learning and teaching about the impact of systems of oppression on our lives and others. As future leaders of society, we take seriously our obligation to use our education to create a more socially just world."

Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC)

This annual conference is hosted each spring by the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools. Walker’s students have taken an active role in the conference by attending as well as by serving as workshop facilitators for their peers.

Walker's students hosted and served as facilitators for the inaugural "Hot Topics" program sponsored by the 球 consortium in the fall of 2010. Walker’s students have been active participants in all subsequent 热点话题 program held at consortium schools through the years. The student-facilitated discussions are a chance for students from the consortium schools to come together to talk with each other about issues of their choosing. Topics for past programs 包括:

  • “Interracial Relationships: Does race or culture matter?”
